Muscle Soreness What Actually Helps

Delayed-onset muscle soreness arrives a day or two after unfamiliar or unusually hard exercise, peaks around forty-eight hours, and fades on its own. It is a byproduct of muscle fibers adapting to new demands — not lactic acid, which clears within the hour, and not a sign the workout went wrong. The practical question is narrower than the folklore around it: of everything sold or suggested for soreness, only a few things reliably move the needle.
