Eating As Participation

Nothing alive stands alone. The breath you just took was made possible by plants and plankton; the water in your cup has cycled through clouds, rivers, and countless other bodies before reaching yours. Contemplative teachers call this interbeing — the way each thing exists only through everything else. The kitchen table is where this stops being abstract, because eating is the one act where the web of life visibly enters us, three times a day.
